Minutes of the Regular Meeting
April 22, 1997
The regular April meeting of the Mercer County Amateur Radio Club was called to order on
April 22, 1997 at 7:37 PM by President Tom Galloway, KA3MYM. Thanks to Tim Duffy, K3LR,
for providing the refreshments this month. There were 22 members present and 2 guests:
Tom Roscoe, K8CX and Ron Wolf. The minutes were ammended to reflect June 21, 1997 as the
correct date for WAMCO. A motion by Linda Yankovich, N3XZA, and seconded by Blaine Smith,
N3UGN, to accept the ammended minutes of the March 1997 meeting
passed.
Treasurer's Report: Dennis Gregory, WM3H, moved to accept the Treasurer's report. Don
Blizzard, W8UMH, seconded the motion. The motion carried.
Membership Committee: No applications on file.
EMA: The County Commissioners have given the OK for the move of the EOC and RACES to
take place at the 911 Center. John Nicklin, N3VVX (EMA Staff Member), has made mention
of the fact that the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh is requesting a listing of
SKYWARN members along with their IDs.
Repeater Committee: Mike Varga, NR3C, is the newest Control Operator of the repeater.
He joins the other Control Operators: Chuck Paddock, W8AOO, and Tom Galloway, KA3MYM.
Tim Jellison, W3YQ, is the Trustee of the repeater.
Constitution & Bylaws Committee: Nothing to report.
RFI/TVI Committee: Nothing to report.
VE Testing: There were 5 applicants in attendance at the VE session in Mercer on Sat.
April 19. Ten (10) elements were given with 5 elements passed. There were 1 Technician,
1 General, and 1 Extra class licenses obtained. Seven VE's were present. The next session
in Mercer is on Sat. June 21.
Net/Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner: There were 31 checkins into last week's Emergency
Communications Net; 2 persons attended last week's breakfast at The Suburban;
8 attended lunch at Wendy's; 7 attended dinner at The Suburban.
OLD BUSINESS: Homepage: Jerry Parkany, KB8YBE, and Mark Shallenberger, N3PBQ, have
the MCARC Homepage up at www.arlnetwork.com/mcarc.
Financial Audit: There is a need to audit the 1996 finacial records
of the club.
Field Day: Field Day will be June 28/29 at Buhl Park. Tim Duffy, K3LR, and Ed
Bailey, N3CGK, will compile a survey for the purposes of scheduling for operation
and bringing of equipment. There is a need for 15 kW generators
this year.
Computer User's Group: Ideas for this informal help group will be tabled until
the fall.
Packet Classes: Instructed by Dennis Gregory, WM3H, will continue
for about a month.
WAMCO: Sat., June 21, 1997, 5 - 9 pm. Grand Prize - IBM PS/2
Model 30. Rules available.
NEW BUSINESS: Membership: Of 82 members on the '96 roster, 71 have renewed. Health
reasons have caused Bill Cook, N3ARM, to resign. The club will
send its best regards.
W3LIF BBS: Tom Galloway, KA3MYM, Tim Jellison, W3YQ, and Jerry Parkany, KB8YBE, have
placed a special section on the BBS with news on club events.
Foxhunt: Sat., May 31, 1997, starting at the Suburban with 8:30 am breakfast and then
commencing at 10 am. The fox will be somewhere in Mercer County!

Transportation: Transportation needed by sight-impaired members,
esp. New Wilmington area.
March of Dimes: Sun., April 27, 1997 at 8 am in Buhl Park. Club
will provide communications.
Pedal the Lakes: Communications needed for Bike Race: Sun.,
June 1, 1997, 7 am, Pymat. Park.
Program: Tom Roscoe, K8CX, presented a program on QSLing and
the DXCC.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:23 pm.
