Vanity Program: The FCC plans to lower the fee for a vanity call to $12.90. 10,000 hams are expected to apply.
SKYWARN: The National Weather Service at Pittsburgh has a new vanity callsign for their amateur station: WX3PIT. Jerry Viele, W8JV, said that he had a listing of all SKYWARN frequencies east of the Rockies. This is a 40 page document and he will give the internet address to anyone interested. Jerry Parkany, KB8YBE, reported that Patrick at Pittsburgh's NWS is personally putting information on the BBS for a daily weather outlook. Larry Adavasio, N3JDH, asked about the status of weather service since Youngstown was discontinued.Tom Galloway, K3TG, reported that Bruce Hofius, KA3TBB, is the liason with the weather service. Also, the EMA is still working to get their new weather system running well.
Moving Wall: Bob Drexler, WA3ZOE, reported that there will be a special events station operated in conjunction with the Vietnam Veterans Moving Wall Memorial in New Castle, PA during July 12 - 18. There will be operators on 10, 20, and 40 meters on the following frequencies: 28.350 MHz, 14.250 MHz, 7.250 MHz. Contacts may be made to get a QSL card. Special Events Station: Jerry Viele, W8JV, reported that a special events station has been licensed under the callsign of W8A for the Austintown Centennial. The one-by-one call is valid for July 1 - 15.
WAMCO: Jerry Parkany, KB8YBE, reported that the Carrier Wave has info, rules, and log sheets from last year. There will be prizes for each category. The grand prize will be a 286 computer set up for packet.
Hamfests: Breezeshooters, June 7; Akron, June 14; Macedonia, June 21.
